Which types of services are covered by Medicare Part B?

Medicare Part B helps cover a range of medically necessary services, including doctor visits, outpatient hospital care, blood work, durable medical equipment, and some home health services. It also pays for services like lab tests, physical therapy, and occupational therapy. Preventive care—such as mammograms, flu shots, and other screenings—is also included.

However, Medicare Part B does not cover routine physical exams, eyeglasses, dental care, dentures, custodial care, hearing aids, orthopedic shoes, routine foot care, or cosmetic surgery. It also generally does not cover most prescription drugs or medical care received outside the United States, except in limited situations.
